Martial Arts

I've been doing martial arts for the past 12 years, specifically karate and kickboxing. I started off as a white belt when I was 8 years old and climbed up the belt ranks until I was a second degree black belt. When I was around 15, my brother and I also started to get into boxing and kickboxing since we loved to spar each other. Since then, I've been practicing martial arts as a regualr part of my workout and its been a great way to make friends and stay active.

One of my favorite things about martial arts is the community around the sport. At USC alone, there's around five or six dedicated clubs to different types of martial arts, with many more orgs being created. It's always so fun to meet other like minded people who genuinely enjoy the sport. Because I'm no longer taking lessons, going to club events has been a great way to keep learning and practicing as much as I can.

Smash Ultimate

Smash Bros Ultimate is a fighting game that features playabale characters from a variety of differnet video game franchises. I got into the game from my friend Johan about three years ago, and since then I've been a huge fan of it. While I use to play a lot more in high school, the game is so popular that more often than not, I can always find someone around campus to play a match with.

While I haven't had the chance to go to any tournaments, I'm hoping to go to some local events in SoCal this year. And my hometown, Oakland, actually hosts a large major event every year where some of the top players travel to, so that'll be another bucket list event to go to. I don't think I'd ever want to compete myself but watching really good players compete at a high level combined with the excitement of other fans in the crowd definitely makes it worthwhile.

My dogs

My whole family utterly adores our two dogs, Remy and Roxie. Remy is a Maltese and Shi Tzu mix (aka Malshi) and Roxie is a pure Shi Tzu. We adopted Remy first but since my mom didn't want him to get lonely, we later adopted Roxie as a companion. While they can be a handful together, we always forgive them since they're too cute to say no too.
